This was the first time I attempted to illustrate the Barsoom
universe. I wanted to create a riding Thoat that was different from others I had
seen. Everyone asks me why the rifle is so big! That's because its a radium
rifle used by the Green men of Mars, who stand 15 feet tall! John Carter can use it
because he retains the strength of an Earth man in the low gravity of Mars.
